About this Website
This web site contains a full set of teaching materials from the FDTL
project Chinese language
skills for Britain: dissemination of best practice.
There is a navigation bar on the left-hand side of each page of the
site. This provides access to the main sections of the site, or allows
you to select the main options for each Reading Week.
All clickable links are in blue.
The
website is written in HTML 4.0 and CSS 2.
Microsoft FrontPageĀ® XP software was used to format Chinese text in
the web pages. The pages have been encoded using the Unicode system.
The two
major Web browsers for Windows computers include support for Unicode
TrueType fonts and so should display the Chinese text correctly,
though for best results we recommend Microsoft Internet Explorer 5 or
later.
Unicode support was
introduced to the Macintosh platform with Mac OS 8.5, so the pages
should also display correctly on Macs. If they do not appear to be
correct, you may need to install the Apple Language Kit for Chinese
from your Mac OS CDROM.
The
initial planning and implementation of this website has been done by
Ralph Brown, on behalf of the Centre for Teaching Chinese as a Foreign
Language, University of Oxford.
The
character writing exercises linked to Reading Week 1 were developed as
part of a joint project by the Centre for Teaching Chinese as a
Foreign Language and the ACDT.
