Which is the better place to visit

Conversation

Paul and Mary are learning Chinese in the same class. Paul used to work for a travel agency in London. Mary would like to travel abroad but has no idea where to go. So she asks Paul for advice. Both of them are brave enough to express themselves in Chinese. Let’s hear the dialogue between these two.

1.   wèi, Băoluó!

喂，保罗！

hi,    Paul

            Hello, Paul !

2.   Mălì,   shénme shì ?

玛丽，什么    事 ？

Mary, what matter

Mary, what’s up? (What can I do for you?)

1.   wŏ xiăng qù lǚyóu.     nĭ  rènwei qù  nă ge  guójiā hăo ?

我  想     去 旅游。 你  认为  去  哪个  国家  好？

I intend go travel. You think go which country better

I am thinking of travelling abroad. Which country do you think it would be nice to

go to ?

2.   nĭ xĭhuān kànfēng jǐng,  hái shi   kàn  gŭjī ?

你 喜欢  看 风   景，还 是    看  古迹？

you like look scenery,  or look historic sites

Do you prefer looking at landscapes or historic sites?

    a.     wŏ dōu xĭhuān .

我  都 喜欢。

I    both like

I like both.

    b.     nà     Zhōngguó shì zuì    hăo   de dìfang !

那    中      国  是  最    好    的  地方！

Then China        is   most good DE place

Then, China is the best place!

去  北京、 西安、山东      看     古迹，

go Beijing, Xi’an,   Shandong look historic sites

Go to Beijing , Xi’an and Shangdong to see historic sites.

qù  Guìlín , Hángzhōu  kàn  fēngjĭng.

去  桂林、 杭州       看    风景。

go Guilin, Hangzhou   look scenery

Go to Guilin and Hangzhou to see landscapes.

    a.      xiàtiān  qù  hăo,  hái shi  qiūtiān  qù  hăo?

 夏天   去  好，还  是   秋 天  去  好？

summer go better, or       autumn go better

 Is it better to go in summer or in autumn?

     b.     wŏ  qù  guo  sān cì.        wŏ xiăng   qiūtiān  bĭ  xiàtiān  hăo.

             我   去  过    三 次。   我  想       秋天   比 夏天     好。

             I     go GUO 3 times.     I think      autumn BI summer better

             I have been there three times. I think it is better to go there in autumn than in summer.

Practice

1. Lets say the dialogue again and pay attention to the tones.

2. Find out if your classmate is going abroad.

3. Try to persuade your friend to visit a place.

4. Tell your classmate how many countries you have been too.

5. Tell your classmates you have studied French Făyŭ, German Déyŭ and Japanese Rìyŭ in Chinese.

6. Tell people about your experiences on a trip to a foreign country.
