It is a modal particle, which is placed at the end of a sentence to imply consultation or suggestion as in

wŏmen zŏu ba .

Let’s go.

ràng wŏ  lái  ná  ba .

让   我   来    拿  吧。

let me  come take BA

Let  me    take   it.

wŏ kàn tāmen  tài  máng le.

我  看   他们  太    忙 了。

I think   they  too busy LE

I think they are too busy.

wŏ kàn ,  tāmen hĕn bānpèi .

我   看，他们  很   般配。

I think they very matched.

wŏmen yào       hùxiāng     xuéxi .

我们      要      互相        学习。

we        should each other learn

We should learn from each other.

dă tā       sān    xià.

打  他      三    下。

Beat him three times.

nĭmen hùxiang  jièshao         yíxià.

你们   互相       介绍        一下。

you   each other introduce YIXIA 

You introduce to each other.

But, yixia 一下 is also used as a time measure which means for a little while.

ràng wŏ kàn yíxià.

让   我 看     一下。

let me look YIXIA

Let me have a look.

In the following dialogue, A is Mrs. Wang, mother of Wang Ying and B is Mrs. Li who is Li Fang’s mother. Both Wang Ying and Li Fang have no boyfriend or girlfriend.  Because of this, the mothers of both young people are trying to find out more information from each other and plan a meeting for the youngsters.

a. Wáng tàitai :     nĭ    érzi    Lĭ Fāng  dàxué       bìyè       jĭ               nián   le?

王太太：       你   儿子  李方     大学       毕业     几              年    了？

                        your son  Li Fang university graduated how many years LE

  How many years since your son Li Fang graduated from university?

b. Lĭ tàitai :           sān  nián .  nĭ      nǚér      Wáng Yīng  ne ?

   李太太：         三     年。你    女儿      王    英      呢？

                            three years your daughter Wang Ying NE

    Three years. How about your daughter Wang Ying?

a. Wáng tàitai:      tā  gāng  bìyè.         Lĭ Fāng xiăohuŏzi   hĕn piàoliang .   tā  duō  dà   le?

王太太：       她  刚   毕业。     李  方    小 伙 子 很    漂亮。    他   多  大  了？

                       she just  graduated Li Fang young men very handsome  he how old LE

She has just graduated. Li Fang is a handsome young man. How old is he?

b.  Lĭ tàitai:             èrshiwŭ suì.  Wáng Yīng ne?

李太太：        二十五  岁。王      英 呢？

                         25 ages Wang Ying NE

     Twenty five years old.  How about Wang Ying?

a. Wáng tàitai:     bĭ Lĭ  Fāng  xiăo liăng  suì, tā   èrshísān.       Lĭ  Fāng  jié hūn  le  ma?

王太太：      比  李   方    小   两    岁,   她  二十三。李   方   结婚   了  吗？

                      BI Li Fang young 2 ages     she 23             Li Fang    marry LE MA

   She is two years younger than Li Fang. She is twenty three. Is Li Fang married ?

b. Lĭ tàitai:              méiyou. tā   lián  nǚ  péngyou dōu  méiyou?           Wáng Yīng ne?  

李太太：         没有。  他  连   女  朋   友    都    没有。        王      英     呢？

                           no        he even girlfriend       DOU doesn’t have Wang Ying NE

      Not yet. He has even got a girl friend. How about Wang Ying?

a. Wáng tàitai:      tā  yĕ    méi you nán  péngyou .

王太太：       她  也   没  有  男    朋友。

                     she also not have boy friend

    She has no boy friend either.

b. Lĭ tàitai:             Wáng Yīng gēn  Lĭ Fāng   yíyàng   yĕ shi   xué diànnăo      de  ba?

李太太：         王       英     跟  李  方    一样，也   是    学  电脑          的 吧？

                             Wang Ying GEN Li Fang same   also SHI learn computer DE BA

     Did Wang Ying study computer like Li Fang?

a. Wáng tàitai:      duì.  wŏ kàn tāmen hĕn bānpèi. wŏmen gĕi tāmen hùxiāng      jièshao  yyíxià     hăo ma ?

王太太：         对。我 看, 他们 很  般配。 我们    给 他们   互相        介绍      一下，  好  吗？

                           yes  I think they very match        we        to them   each other introduce YIXIA OK MA?

                           Yes, I think they are a very good match. Should we introduce them to each other?
