Tasks for B, a Chinese administrator

Make the conversation as realistic as possible by greeting each other at the beginning and by using small talk. Try to anticipate the flow of the conversation by looking at the following prompts.

  1. Ask A if he or she has taught English before.
  2. Tell A that he or she can start the job immediately, as his or her mother tongue is English.
  3. Tell A that he or she will have to teach 6 hours a week: 2 hours a day, from Monday to Wednesday. The first week is a trial (试用 shìyòng V/N) week. If A passes he or she will be formally appointed.
  4. Tell A that he or she is going to teach the intermediate (中级 zhōngjí N) oral class.
  5. Tell A that students in that class have learnt English for two and half years. There are 25 in the class.
  6. Tell A that the teachers at your college have to provide their own teaching material for all the oral classes.
  7. Tell A that he or she can start the class next Monday at 6, but A must be there at 5.30, as you are going to introduce him or her to the class.
  8. Ask A for his or her contact details.
