Getting started

The multimedia content of this CDROM requires Apple Quicktime Media Player. This software can be downloaded free of charge from the Apple website (http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/).

For best results we recommend that your computer's display resolution should be set to 800 x 600 pixels (this can be done from the Windows Control Panel) and that you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 5 or later.

To enter Chinese text we suggest that you use the Microsoft Input Method Editor for Simplified Chinese. The Input Method Editor (IME) is an application that enables you to enter Chinese characters in other programs by converting keystrokes from an English keyboard into Asian characters.

If your computer has Windows 2000 or XP as the operating system, the IME for Simplified Chinese can be installed from the Windows 2000 CDROM (in the Control Panel, select Regional Settings, then Input Locales and add the IME for Simplified Chinese).

If you use an earlier version of Windows (Windows 95/98 and Windows NT Workstation 4.0), then you will need to obtain the Microsoft Global IME 5.02 for Simplified Chinese. This software can be downloaded free of charge from the Microsoft website (http://www.microsoft.com/msdownload/iebuild/ime5_win32/en/ime5_win32.htm). It can also be obtained on the Microsoft Office Proofing Tools for Asian Languges CDROM and on the Microsoft Office 2000 Multi-Language Pack Disk 4 (Simplified and Traditional Chinese).
