Lesson Thirteen  BA3

The ba3 sentence construction is used to express how one deals with an object. It often has two (direct and indirect) objects that are shared by one verb.

Originally  ba3 is a verb . It means to grip. The construction is based on a sequence of actions. For example, put the cup on the table, in Chinese it will be

bǎ bēizi fàngzài zhōuzi shàng  Play Media

grip cup  put  on  table     top."

Ba3 sentences have verbs that need other elements, such as resultative (ting1 dong3: listen understand), directional (na jinqu to take sth in).

There are two Chinese words that are used as "to" in the following sentences. To a person: is gei3 and to a place is dao4.
