Situation

A is a British student who is trying to find an art shop on the other side of town

B is the first Chinese passer-by. 

C is the second Chinese passer-by.

Tasks for A, a British student

Make the conversation as realistic as possible by greeting each other at the beginning and by using small talk. Try to anticipate the flow of the conversation by looking at the following prompts.

  1. You want to go to a Chinese art shop in Nanjing Road. Ask B which bus you should take.
  2. Make sure that you understand B clearly by repeating the instructions back to him or her.
  3. On the bus. Ask the bus conductor C for a ticket to Heping Rd.
  4. After a long journey, you at last reach Changjiang Road. Ask D how to get to Nanjing Road.
  5. Ask D if there is a famous Chinese Art shop in Nanjing Road. You can’t remember its name.
  6. Say that the name of the shop is Chinese Scenery.
  7. Ask D where you can find a taxi.
