Comments  Alternatively: 我 能 用 一 会 儿 你 的 自 行 车 吗 wŏ néng yòng yíhuìr nĭ de zì xíng chē ma? A modal verb should be placed before a main verb. If a sentence contains a modal verb, the aspectual  marker 了 le is not used, as in 昨 天 他 想 去 看 他 女 朋 友 zuótiān tā xiăng qù kàn tā nǚ péngyou he was going to see his girlfriend yesterday. Both 能 néng and 可 以 kěyĭ can be used for asking permission, as in 我 能 在 这 儿 吸 烟 吗 wŏ néng zài zhèr xī yān ma or 我 可 以 在 这 儿 吸 烟 吗 wŏ kěyĭ zài zhèr xī yān ma may I smoke here?
