Question: Tell your friend that you wanted to go out to eat some French food yesterday, but it was too late, so you didn't go.

Answer  我 昨 天 想 去 吃 点 儿 法 国 菜 ， 可 是 太 晚 了 ， 没 去 成 。 Listen
Comments  Alternatively: 昨 天我 想 去 吃 些 法 国 菜, 但 是 晚 了, 没 去 成 zuótiān wŏ xiăng qù chī xiē Făguó cài, dànshi wăn le, méi qù chéng. The resultative word 成 chéng means to be successful in doing something. The aspectual marker 了 le is not used when a sentence has a modal verb, such as 想 xiăng , 喜 欢 xĭhuān or 要 yào. For instance, 去 年 我 想 去 日 本 玩 qùnián wŏ xiăng qù Rìběn wán I wanted to go to Japan on holiday last year.
