Comments  Alternatively: 我 五 年 没 出 国 了, 今 年 夏 天 我 真 想 去 日 本 wŏ wǔ nián méi chū guó le, jīnnián xiàtiān wŏ zhēn xiăng qù Rìběn. The time measure is placed before the negation. The modal particle 了 le at the end of the sentence indicates that until today the speaker has not been abroad for five years. Without the modal particle 了 le at the end of the sentence, it would mean that the speaker did not go abroad for five years in the past.
