nǐ dōu néng jì zhù .../ nǐ dōu néng jì de zhù jīntiān shàngwǔ zài
kètáng shàng zuò de yǔfǎ liànxí ma? The modal verb 能
néng can be used as an alternative. The resultative verb 看 懂
kàn dǒng understand it by reading can take the potential verb complement form of 看 得 懂
kàn de dǒng able to understand by reading. If 能
néng is used this becomes 能 看 懂
néng kàn dǒng can understand by reading. However, some idiomatic potential verb phrases, such as 对 不 起
duì bu qǐ
sorry / excuse me cannot be replaced by using this modal verb 能
néng.
